I’ve been bad about posting lately, more to come soon, including a very cool engagement session and a complete wedding post for Ben & Angela.
I continue to donate $50 from every wedding booking to Kiva.org, a great organization that provides entrepreneurs in developing countries the opportunity to borrow money to help them with their businesses. Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. You can check out their site here I turned my lovely wife Tiffany loose the last time we made loans, and she chose women’s groups in Tanzania, Pakistan, Senegal & Cambodia. You can see the groups in the photo below.

I have been working on quite a few photo projects recently at Union High School, where I teach digital photography. Click Here if you would like to see my class page and student work page.
First, the marketing department was putting together a winter athletic calendar and asked my students and I to help them with the photographs…rather than go with traditional group shots, I wanted to try something a little more dramatic…something that looked like an athletic ad. I think they turned out very cool, here are a few them.

Next, one of my students, Dustin aka nuDist, recently had an exhibition at the Art Institute of Portland. He creates wearable art by staining Vans shoes into his own creations. I took a few photos for him at his exhibition. He also painted the giant hairy legs on the wall…

I recently met with Rebekah & Nick for their engagement photos. On a beautiful fall afternoon we met at Kennedy School in NE Portland, the spot where Nick proposed to Rebekah. We then moved on to a nearby elementary school with some great fall colors. Its actually the school where my wife and I take our dog on walks. Finally we headed down to the SE Industrial district for some cool shots in the fading sunlight. Rebekah and Nick are going to be married at the Grand Lodge next summer and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding.

I photographed Alicia & Peder’s wedding at McMenamin’s Grand Lodge last weekend. We got very lucky with the weather and some of the fall colors. It was a great evening full of laughter and a good deal of boogying late into the night. Alicia and Peder were awesome to work with and now they’re off to Hawaii.

Sunday afternoon Tiffany and I went to the birthday party for one year old Beau, the son of a very close friend of hers. The festivities took place mostly in the backyard, where I found plenty of photogenic kids despite the fact that they had smeared cupcake all over their cute little faces. Thank goodness the Portland weather held up so the kids could have some space outside to play and be messy (and at one point chase eachother around with a baseball bat). Here are a few of my favorites, including Beau’s first few bites of his birthday cupcake.

I belong to a Flickr group that specializes in using creative lighting techniques for portraits. We meet every now and then at interesting locations and photograph local models. We had two shoots recently, one at Skateworld in Hillsboro…a very cool old school skating rink. The other was at a hair salon in NW Portland where we photographed some of the hair stylists. Here are some of my favorite ‘experiments’.
First…Skateworld

These are from the salon.

One of the stylists was 7 months pregnant and was kind enough to pose for me.

I photographed Brenda & Daryl’s wedding at Skamania Lodge last weekend. It was a small, intimate wedding and Brenda and Daryl were surrounding by their closest friends and family. The grounds around the lodge were beautiful and we got some great shots. Brenda and Daryl were great to work with, truly two of the nicest people I have ever met.

A few weeks ago I photographed the wedding of Jennifer & David in Astoria, Oregon. It was a beautiful ceremony held at Grace Episcopal Church in downtown Astoria followed by a gorgeous reception at David’s family’s house on the beach just outside of Astoria. In between the ceremony and reception Jen, David and I slipped away for a photo session on the beach. It was a truly memorable wedding. Here are some photos from the day.
